                             SUMMARY
 
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the

brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
 
  Directs Department of Education to award grants to school
districts for partial cost of relocation of schools located
within tsunami inundation zone.
  Appropriates moneys from General Fund to Department of
Education for grants.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to school facilities; and appropriating money.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) As used in this section:
  (a) 'Costs of relocation' means the capital construction costs
of a new school facility.
  (b) 'Tsunami inundation zone' means the zone designated as such
by the State Department of Geology and Mineral Industries
pursuant to ORS 455.446.
  (2) Pursuant to rules adopted by the State Board of Education,
the Department of Education shall award grants to school
districts for portions of the costs of relocation of school
facilities located within the tsunami inundation zone to
locations outside of the tsunami inundation zone.
  (3) A school district shall receive no more than 20 percent of
the costs of relocation of a school facility under this section.
  (4) The State Board of Education shall adopt rules to
administer the grant program. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Department of
Education for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the sum of $___, which may be expended for grants
to school districts pursuant to section 1 of this 2001 Act. + }
