  Delete lines 4 through 25 of the printed bill and insert:
  '  { +  SECTION 1. + }  { + (1) As used in this section,
'regular school program' has the meaning given that term in ORS
339.141.
  ' (2) If space is available, a school district shall allow a
student who attends a private school access to activities outside
the regular school program that are sponsored by the school
district to the same extent as a student who attends a public
school in the school district. These activities may include, but
are not limited to, athletics, music, speech and other related
interscholastic activities.
  ' (3) A school district may charge a private school student the
same fees and deposits as a condition of participation in the
school activity that are charged to a public school student
pursuant to ORS 339.141, 339.147 and 339.155.
  ' (4) A school district may require a private school student to
fulfill the same responsibilities and standards of behavior and
performance as public school students participating in the school
activity. These responsibilities and standards may include
requirements that:
  ' (a) The private school student meet the same standards for
acceptance on a team or squad or other activity as public school
students.
  ' (b) The private school student meet the same academic
standards required of public school students for the activity.
Evidence of meeting academic standards may be shown with records
from a private school.
  ' (c) The private school student meet related practice
requirements for the activity.
  ' (5) A school district may not require a private school
student to meet:
  ' (a) The school district's school or class attendance
requirements; or
  ' (b) The school district's examination requirements.
  ' (6) A private school student participating in school
activities under this section must reside within the boundaries
of the school district and reside within any attendance
boundaries established by policy of the school district board.
  ' (7) If a private school student has been expelled from a
public school under a policy adopted under ORS 339.250, a school
district may deny the student access to an activity for the
period of the expulsion.
  ' (8) If a private school that the student attends offers a
substantially similar activity, a school district shall deny the
private school student access to the public school activity. + }
