SUMMARY

Requires that ex officio members of International Trade
Commission appointed by President of Senate and Speaker of House
of Representatives be member of Senate and member of House of
Representatives, respectively.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to appointment of ex officio members of International
Trade Commission; creating new provisions; and amending ORS
285A.131.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. ORS 285A.131 is amended to read:
285A.131. (1) There is established the International Trade
Commission consisting of nine members appointed by the Governor.
In appointing members of the commission, the Governor shall
appoint some members who represent businesses specializing in
international trade and some who represent traded sector
industries. At least one member of the International Trade
Commission appointed by the Governor shall be a member of the
Oregon Economic and Community Development Commission.
(2) In addition to the members appointed by the Governor, the
President of the Senate { + shall appoint one member of the
Senate + } and the Speaker of the House of Representatives shall
appoint one member { - each - } { + of the House of
Representatives + } to serve as nonvoting, ex officio members of
the International Trade Commission.
(3) The members of the commission who are appointed by the
Governor shall serve on the commission at the pleasure of the
Governor.
(4) The members of the commission who are appointed by the
Governor may receive payment for their actual and necessary
travel and other expenses as provided in ORS 285A.060.
(5) The Economic and Community Development Department shall
provide staff support for the International Trade Commission.
(6) The commission may appoint work groups and task forces as
the commission considers appropriate to assist the commission in
carrying out the duties of the commission under this section and
ORS 285A.133. Work groups and task forces may include individuals
who are not members of the commission.
(7) The Director of the Economic and Community Development
Department, with the approval of the Governor, shall appoint an
executive director of the International Division of the Economic
and Community Development Department from a list of candidates
submitted by the International Trade Commission.
SECTION 2. { + The amendments to ORS 285A.131 by section 1 of
this 2001 Act apply only to members appointed after the effective
date of this 2001 Act. + }
