                             AN ACT
 
 
Relating to salaries of certain elected public office holders;
  amending ORS 292.313, 292.405, 292.410, 292.415 and 292.425;
  appropriating money; and declaring an emergency.
 
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
 
  SECTION 1. ORS 292.313 is amended to read:
  292.313. The incumbents of each of the following offices shall
be paid an annual salary on a monthly basis, as follows:
  (1) Governor,   { - $88,300 for the year beginning July 1,
1997, and each year thereafter - }   { + $93,600 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $99,200 for
the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and
for each year thereafter + }. The Governor shall also be paid
$1,000 per month regularly for expenses necessarily incurred but
not otherwise provided for.
  (2) Secretary of State,   { - $67,900 for the year beginning
July 1, 1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $72,000 for the
year beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and
$76,300 for the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30,
2003, and for each year thereafter + }. The Secretary of State
shall also be paid $250 per month regularly for expenses
necessarily incurred but not otherwise provided for.
  (3) State Treasurer,   { - $67,900 for the year beginning July
1, 1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $72,000 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $76,300 for
the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and
for each year thereafter + }. The State Treasurer shall also be
paid $250 per month regularly for expenses necessarily incurred
but not otherwise provided for.
  (4) Attorney General,   { - $72,800 for the year beginning July
1, 1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $77,200 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $81,800 for
the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and
for each year thereafter + }. The Attorney General shall also be
paid $250 per month regularly for expenses necessarily incurred
but not otherwise provided for.
  (5) Superintendent of Public Instruction,   { - $67,900
beginning July 1, 1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +
$72,000 for the year beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30,
2002, and $76,300 for the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending
June 30, 2003, and for each year thereafter + }. The
superintendent shall also be paid $250 per month regularly for
expenses necessarily incurred but not otherwise provided for.

  (6) Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industries,
  { - $67,900 for the year beginning July 1, 1997, and each year
thereafter - }  { +  $72,000 for the year beginning July 1, 2001,
and ending June 30, 2002, and $76,300 for the year beginning July
1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and for each year
thereafter + }. The commissioner shall also be paid $250 per
month regularly for expenses necessarily incurred but not
otherwise provided for.
  SECTION 2. ORS 292.405 is amended to read:
  292.405. (1) The annual salary of the Chief Judge of the Court
of Appeals shall be   { - $93,600 for the year beginning July 1,
1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $99,200 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $105,200
for the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003,
and for each year thereafter + }.
  (2) The annual salary of each other judge of the Court of
Appeals shall be   { - $91,500 for the year beginning July 1,
1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $97,000 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $102,800
for the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003,
and for each year thereafter + }.
  SECTION 3. ORS 292.410 is amended to read:
  292.410. (1) The annual salary of the Chief Justice of the
Supreme Court shall be   { - $95,800 for the year beginning July
1, 1997, and each year thereafter - }  { +  $101,500 for the year
beginning July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $107,600
for the year beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003,
and for each year thereafter + }.
  (2) The annual salary of each other judge of the Supreme Court
shall be   { - $93,600 for the year beginning July 1, 1997, and
each year thereafter - }  { +  $99,200 for the year beginning
July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $105,200 for the year
beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and for each
year thereafter + }.
  SECTION 4. ORS 292.415 is amended to read:
  292.415. The annual salary of each judge of a circuit court
shall be   { - $85,300 for the year beginning July 1, 1997, and
each year thereafter - }  { +  $90,400 for the year beginning
July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $95,800 for the year
beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and for each
year thereafter + }.
  SECTION 5. ORS 292.425 is amended to read:
  292.425. The annual salary of the judge of the Oregon Tax Court
shall be   { - $88,000 for the year beginning July 1, 1997, and
each year thereafter - }  { +  $93,300 for the year beginning
July 1, 2001, and ending June 30, 2002, and $98,900 for the year
beginning July 1, 2002, and ending June 30, 2003, and for each
year thereafter + }.
  SECTION 6.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the office of the
Governor, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the amount of $19,134, to fund the salary
adjustment and related costs in ORS 292.313 (1). + }
  SECTION 7.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Secretary of State,
for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the General Fund,
the amount of $15,539, to fund the salary adjustment and related
costs in ORS 292.313 (2). + }
  SECTION 8.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the State Treasurer, for

the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the General Fund, the
amount of $15,539, to fund the salary adjustment and related
costs in ORS 292.313 (3). + }
  SECTION 9.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Department of
Justice, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the amount of $16,546, to fund the salary
adjustment and related costs in ORS 292.313 (4). + }
  SECTION 10.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Department of
Education, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the amount of $15,539, to fund the salary
adjustment and related costs in ORS 292.313 (5). + }
  SECTION 11.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Bureau of Labor and
Industries, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the amount of $15,539, to fund the salary
adjustment and related costs in ORS 292.313 (6). + }
  SECTION 12.  { + In addition to and not in lieu of any other
appropriation, there is appropriated to the Judicial Department,
for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the General Fund,
the amount of $3,418,233, to fund the salary adjustment and
related costs in ORS 292.405, 292.410, 292.415 and 292.425. + }
  SECTION 13.  { + This 2001 Act being necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an
emergency is declared to exist, and this 2001 Act takes effect
July 1, 2001. + }
