Creates offense of unlawful operation of motor vehicle in left
lane. Punishes violation by maximum fine of $300.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to motor vehicle operation in left lane.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. { + Section 2 of this 2001 Act is added to and made
a part of ORS chapter 811. + }
SECTION 2. { + (1) A person commits the offense of unlawful
operation of a motor vehicle in the left lane if:
(a) The person is operating a motor vehicle on a highway with
at least two lanes for vehicles proceeding in the same direction;
and
(b) The person operates the motor vehicle in the left lane at a
speed that is lower than the designated speed limit.
(2) A person does not commit the offense of unlawful operation
of a motor vehicle in the left lane if the person is operating a
motor vehicle in the left lane at a speed that is lower than the
designated speed limit and is overtaking another motor vehicle.
(3) The offense described in this section, unlawful operation
of a motor vehicle in the left lane, is a Class B traffic
violation. + }
