SUMMARY

brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
Directs State Board of Higher Education to develop and
implement plan to double number of higher education student
internships in electronic commerce and related companies.
Declares emergency, effective July 1, 2001.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to student internships; and declaring an emergency.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. { + (1) During the 2001-2003 biennium, the State
Board of Higher Education shall work collaboratively with private
sector organizations to develop and implement a plan to double
the number of higher education student internships in electronic
commerce and related companies. The goal of the plan shall be to
place student interns throughout Oregon in a timely manner and
with as little burden as possible on educational institutions and
the companies.
(2) The plan shall:
(a) Include a standardized process for placement of student
interns in small and large companies, regardless of geographic
location;
(b) Address the financial limitations that may hinder small
companies from participating in an internship program; and
(c) Include an outreach program conducted by the board to raise
the awareness of companies and students of internship
possibilities throughout the state.
(3) The board shall report to the Seventy-second Legislative
Assembly on the development and implementation of the plan. + }
SECTION 2. { + This 2001 Act being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency
is declared to exist, and this 2001 Act takes effect July 1,
2001. + }
