                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to district school boards; creating new provisions;
  amending ORS 332.040; and declaring an emergency.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1. ORS 332.040 is amended to read:
  332.040. No later than at the next regular meeting following
July 1, the district school board shall meet and organize by
electing a chairperson and a vice chairperson from its members.
No member shall serve as chairperson for more than   { - two - }

  SECTION 2.  { + The amendments to ORS 332.040 by section 1 of
this 2001 Act apply to any person serving as chairperson of a
district school board on or after the effective date of this 2001
Act. + }
  SECTION 3.  { + This 2001 Act being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency
is declared to exist, and this 2001 Act takes effect on its
passage. + }
