SUMMARY

Appropriates moneys from General Fund to Judicial Department
for biennial expenses.
Limits biennial expenditures from fees, moneys or other
revenues, including Miscellaneous Receipts, excluding lottery
funds and federal funds, collected or received by department.
Limits biennial expenditures of department from federal funds.
Declares emergency, effective July 1, 2001.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to the financial administration of the Judicial
Department; appropriating money; limiting expenditures; and
declaring an emergency.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. { + There is appropriated to the Judicial
Department, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001, out of the
General Fund, the following amounts to be used for payment of
expenses of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Oregon Tax
Court, the State Court Administrator and Trial Court

SECTION 2. { + Notwithstanding any other law, there is
appropriated to the Judicial Department, for the biennium
beginning July 1, 2001, out of the General Fund, $163,837,787 for
payment of indigent defense fees, to be allotted quarterly by the
Judicial Department in a manner that causes expenditures not to
exceed the appropriation made by this section. Amounts
appropriated that are determined by the department to be in
excess of the amounts needed to pay indigent defense costs may be
transferred to the operating budget of the Judicial
Department. + }
SECTION 3. { + Notwithstanding any other law, the amount of
$11,483,362 is established for the biennium beginning July 1,
2001, as the maximum limit for payment of expenses from fees,
moneys or other revenues, including Miscellaneous Receipts, but
excluding lottery funds and federal funds, collected or received
by the Judicial Department. + }
SECTION 4. { + Notwithstanding any other law, the amount of
$455,138 is established for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001,
as the maximum limit for the payment of expenses from federal
funds collected or received by the Judicial Department. + }
SECTION 5. { + This 2001 Act being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency
is declared to exist, and this 2001 Act takes effect July 1,
2001. + }
