In memoriam: City of Tigard Mayor James R. (Jim) Nicoli.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas City of Tigard Mayor James R. (Jim) Nicoli died June
30, 2000, at 48 years of age; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli devoted his life to the service of the
communities in which he lived; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli served diligently during his college years
as a volunteer firefighter and in that service saved the life of
a drowning child; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli worked tirelessly to establish and maintain
community structures and events for Tigard, such as a community
center, the fire hall, the Strawberry Festival, the Tigard
Festival of the Balloons and the Tigard Farmers Market; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli served his community through membership in
Rotary International and the Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas in 1994 the City of Tigard named Jim Nicoli its First
Citizen; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli served as Mayor of the City of Tigard and
worked for better roads, transportation and a sense of regional
cooperation; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli devoted the last months of his life to
establishing a recreation district to serve children; and
Whereas Jim Nicoli embodied the best characteristics of an
Oregonian: simple spoken, down-to-earth, honest, open and ready
to help those in need; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
mourn the passing of City of Tigard Mayor Jim Nicoli, extend our
condolences to his family and express our sincere appreciation
for a person who worked selflessly to better his community; and
be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Jim
Nicoli's parents, Clarence and Louise Nicoli, as an expression of
the esteem in which we hold the memory of their son.
