  Whereas former member of the Oregon House of Representatives
Verner J. (Andy) Anderson died October 31, 2000, at 75 years of
age; and
  Whereas Andy Anderson served his country as a member of the
Armed Services during World War II; and
  Whereas Andy Anderson devoted his life to the service of the
communities in which he lived through membership in the Elks,
American Legion, Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce; and
  Whereas Andy Anderson was active in the Oregon Dental
Association and served on the Oregon State Board of Dental
Examiners; and
  Whereas the people of Douglas County elected Andy Anderson to
serve as their state Representative for four terms beginning in
1981; and
  Whereas Andy Anderson, despite being a member of the minority
party, was able to count among his legislative successes laws to
ban new dams on the North Umpqua River, to set rules for cottage
industries and to require state agencies to examine the economic
effect of their rules on businesses; and
  Whereas after service in the Legislative Assembly, Andy
Anderson continued his efforts to beautify his community,
including assisting with the Mountain of Roses campaign, an
effort to plant red, climbing roses at the base of Mount Nebo;
and
  Whereas Andy Anderson helped start the now renowned wine
industry in Douglas County; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
 
  That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
mourn the passing of former state Representative Verner J. (Andy)
Anderson, extend our condolences to his family and express our
sincere appreciation for a person who worked tirelessly to better
his community; and be it further
  Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Andy
Anderson's children, Jim and Darci Anderson of Bend and John and
Caterina Anderson of Portland, as an expression of the esteem in
which we hold the memory of our late colleague.
