Congratulates University of Oregon football team and Oregon
State University football team for their outstanding 2000-2001
football seasons.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas the University of Oregon Ducks football team won its
first bowl game in 1917, defeating the University of
Pennsylvania; and
Whereas in 2000-2001 the Ducks finished the first 10-win season
in the Ducks' 105-year history; and
Whereas in 2000-2001 the Ducks were cochampions of the Pacific
Athletic Conference Top Ten; and
Whereas in 2001 the Ducks were victorious in their first
appearance at the Holiday Bowl, defeating the Longhorns of the
University of Texas by a score of 35-30; and
Whereas in 2000-2001 the Oregon State Beavers football team
finished the season with an 11-1 winning record; and
Whereas in 2000-2001 the Oregon State Beavers enjoyed a final
ranking of fourth in the nation for the football season; and
Whereas in the 2001 Fiesta Bowl the Beavers dominated the
Fighting Irish of Notre Dame with a score of 41-9; and
Whereas Beavers Coach Dennis Erickson was selected as Pacific
Athletic Conference Top Ten Coach of the Year and also selected
as National Coach of the Year by the Sporting News; now,
therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
acknowledge the rich tradition and history of the University of
Oregon football team and congratulate the Ducks on their
outstanding 2000-2001 football season; and be it further
Resolved, That we further acknowledge the rich tradition and
history of the Oregon State University football team and
congratulate the Beavers on their outstanding 2000-2001 football
season.
