House Concurrent Resolution 10
Sponsored by Representative SIMMONS
SUMMARY
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
Recognizes benefits to state of Willamette River Greenway and
continuing need to protect, preserve and enhance this valuable
resource.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas the Willamette River Greenway was created in 1967 as
the Willamette River Park System; and
Whereas Governor Tom McCall and the Fifty-fourth Legislative
Assembly had the foresight to recognize the value of the
Willamette River and to see the benefit in protecting and
preserving the natural, scenic and recreational qualities of the
lands along the river; and
Whereas without legislative coordination, development along the
Willamette River would have destroyed this precious resource; and
Whereas the Willamette River is still threatened by development
and diminished water quality; and
Whereas there is a benefit in recognizing past land
preservation efforts; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
recognize the natural, scenic and recreational qualities that the
Willamette River provides to the citizens of this state; and be
it further
Resolved, That on the 34th anniversary of the passage of
legislation creating the Willamette River Park System, that we
the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly commemorate
the passage of that groundbreaking legislation; and be it further
Resolved, That we the members of the Seventy-first Legislative
Assembly recognize the continuing need to protect, preserve and
enhance the Willamette River for future Oregonians.
