Congratulates City of Jacksonville on 150th anniversary.

                      CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas in the winter of 1851 to 1852, gold was discovered on
the banks of Rich Gulch and, within weeks, the town of Table Rock
City grew up along the banks of Jackson Creek, Daisy Creek and
Rich Gulch; and
Whereas in 1853, citizens renamed Table Rock City the City of
Jacksonville, and the city became the seat of county government;
and
Whereas for 30 years, the City of Jacksonville thrived as
southern Oregon's center for agriculture, commerce,
transportation and entertainment and was southern Oregon's
largest community; and
Whereas the citizens of the City of Jacksonville built a town
of wood and brick buildings with tree-lined streets suitable for
foot, horse and wagon travel; and
Whereas the City of Jacksonville has restored and preserved its
pristine antiquity and small town atmosphere; and
Whereas in 1966, the National Park Service designated the City
of Jacksonville the first National Historic Landmark District in
Oregon; and
Whereas the City of Jacksonville remains one of the West's
outstanding examples of a 19th century mining and farming town,
nearly unaltered by the passage of time; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
acknowledge the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the
City of Jacksonville and congratulate the citizens of the city on
this important milestone.
