  Directs State Department of Fish and Wildlife to submit program
to obtain control over   { - marine mammal - }   { + harbor seal
and California sea lion + } populations in Oregon waters from
federal government.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to marine mammals; and appropriating money.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) By December 31, 2002, the State Department
of Fish and Wildlife shall prepare and submit to the secretary
for approval a program to transfer management authority of harbor
seals and California sea lions in the waters of this state to the
State of Oregon under the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972,
16 U.S.C. 1361 to 1407, as amended.
  (2) As used in this section, 'secretary' has the meaning given
that term in the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, 16 U.S.C.
1362, as amended. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + There is appropriated to the State Department
of Fish and Wildlife, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2001,
out of the General Fund, the amount of $300,000 for the purpose
of carrying out section 1 of this 2001 Act. + }
