introduced.
 
  Modifies requirements for licensure by endorsement by Oregon
Board of Optometry.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to licensure by endorsement by Oregon Board of
  Optometry; creating new provisions; and amending ORS 683.220.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1. ORS 683.220 is amended to read:
  683.220.   { - (1) - }  The Oregon Board of Optometry may grant
to an applicant a license  { + by endorsement + } for the
practice of optometry in the State of Oregon if the applicant:
    { - (a) - }   { + (1) + } Holds   { - an original - }
 { + a + } license  { + for the practice of optometry + }
obtained by examination in another state of the United
States { + . Any discipline or sanction related to the practice
of optometry imposed upon the applicant by any state licensing
agency must be disclosed on the application for licensure + };
    { - (b) - }   { + (2) + } Continuously engaged in the
practice of optometry
  { - in the state where licensed - }  for not less than
 { - five - }   { + two + } years immediately preceding the
application to the board;
    { - (c) - }   { + (3) + } Has educational qualifications the
board considers equivalent to the educational requirements
necessary for licensing by the board at the time the applicant
commenced the practice of optometry { + . The educational
requirements shall include passing the National Board of
Examiners in Optometry examination or its equivalent, as
determined by the board + };
    { - (d) - }   { + (4) + }   { - Has successfully passed the
National Board of Examiners in Optometry examination; - }  { +
Meets the requirements for Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agent
certification established by rule by the board; + }
    { - (e) - }   { + (5) + } Passes a   { - practical
examination sufficient to satisfy the board of the technical and
professional proficiency of the applicant - }  { +  written
 
examination approved by the board on Oregon optometric law and
administrative rules + };
    { - (f) - }   { + (6) + }   { - Is confirmed as having
adhered to professional ethics in any other state in which the
applicant has been a licensed practitioner. A letter confirming
such shall be mailed directly to the administrator of the board
from the licensing body of the state where the applicant is
licensed. Any letter from the licensing board of the state where
the applicant is reported to have engaged in unethical conduct of
any kind must set forth the particulars of the adverse
situation - }  { +  Submits documentation satisfactory to the
board of continuing optometric education hours equivalent to the
requirements established by ORS 683.210 + }; and
    { - (g) - }   { + (7) + } Pays the  { + application + } fee
 { - for examination set under ORS 683.060 - }  { +  set by the
board + }.
    { - (2) Any license so granted by the board shall become void
when its holder terminates Oregon residency. - }
  SECTION 2.  { + The amendments to ORS 683.220 by section 1 of
this 2001 Act apply only to licenses issued by endorsement on or
after the effective date of this 2001 Act. + }
