                             SUMMARY

  Establishes Oregon Military Museum in Clackamas County.
Directs Oregon Military Department to establish official
repository in museum for weapons, documents and artifacts
relating to military history of citizens of Oregon, whether
service is in Oregon National Guard or any branch of United
States Armed Forces.  Changes name of Oregon National Guard
Military Museum and Resource Center to Oregon Military Museum.
Directs Department of Transportation to place highway signs for
museum on   { - Interstate 205 and - }  State Highway 212.
 { - Directs Oregon Military Department to study cost of hiring
museum staff and to report findings to and request funding from
Emergency Board. - }
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to the Oregon National Guard Military Museum and
  Resource Center; creating new provisions; and amending ORS
  396.555, 396.560 and 396.565.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1. ORS 396.555 is amended to read:
  396.555. (1)  { + The Oregon Military Museum is established at
Camp Withycombe in Clackamas County. + } The Oregon Military
Department   { - may - }   { + shall + } establish an official
repository  { + in the museum + } for military weapons, documents
and artifacts relating to the  { + military + } history of
 { + the citizens of Oregon, whether service is in + } the Oregon
National Guard  { + or the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or
Coast Guard of the United States + }.
  (2)   { - With the approval of the Governor, - }  The
department may enter into agreements with the contributors of
such artifacts as it considers necessary.
  SECTION 2. ORS 396.560 is amended to read:
  396.560. The Oregon Military Department may seek, solicit,
receive and administer monetary grants or donations for the
support and improvement of the   { - Oregon National Guard
Military Museum and Resource Center - }   { + Oregon Military
Museum + } established under ORS 396.555. Grants and donations so
received are continuously appropriated to the Oregon Military
Department for the purposes of this section and ORS 396.565.
  SECTION 3. ORS 396.565 is amended to read:
  396.565. The Oregon Military Department may donate, exchange or
otherwise dispose of property not required for the current or
anticipated needs of the   { - Oregon National Guard Military
Museum and Resource Center - }  { +  Oregon Military Museum + }.
Disposal shall be made in a manner appropriate to the historic or
intrinsic value of the property and shall be performed to
engender good will and to improve the   { - Oregon National Guard
Military Museum and Resource Center - }  { +  museum + }.
  SECTION 4.  { + The Department of Transportation shall place
signs identifying cultural and historic features, as defined by
department rules, for the Oregon Military Museum on State Highway
212 by June 30, 2002. + }
