SENATE AMENDMENTS TO
SENATE BILL 645

On page 1 of the printed bill, line 2, delete 'and' and after
'money' insert '; and declaring an emergency'.
In line 4, delete 'endorsement'.
In line 11, delete 'school infrastructure does' and insert '
schools do'.
In line 12, delete 'does it' and insert 'do public schools' and
delete 'schools'.
Delete lines 17 through 30 and insert:
' { + SECTION 1. + } { + (1) The Department of Education
shall contract with a provider to develop an annual statewide
survey of public school students who are in grades 8 through 12
to measure the students' areas of interest and levels of
involvement in career related learning activities.
' (2) During the 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and
2005-2006 school years, the department shall make the survey
available to school districts and shall inform school districts
about available career information gathering and planning
processes. A school district may administer the survey to the
students of the district.
' (3) The department and each school district shall use the
data collected from the surveys to implement the Certificate of
Advanced Mastery.
' (4) Each survey shall obtain data on:
' (a) Career area preferences of students based on the broad
career areas of study developed by the department;
' (b) Educational goals of students;
' (c) Exposure to and participation in career exploration
opportunities by students;
' (d) The number of students who work or volunteer;
' (e) Career exploration levels among students;
' (f) The top careers that interest students; and
' (g) Other information, as specified by the department, that
would help students develop education plans. + } ' .
On page 2, line 2, delete '$_____' and insert '$200,000'.
After line 3, insert:
' { + SECTION 3. + } { + This 2001 Act being necessary for
the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and
safety, an emergency is declared to exist, and this 2001 Act
takes effect July 1, 2001. + } ' .
