                             SUMMARY

brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
 
  Allows object or document containing words of Ten Commandments
to be displayed in public school classroom or building or at
public school event if displayed with other objects and documents
of historical significance.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to public school displays.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + An object or document containing the words of
the Ten Commandments may be displayed in any public school
classroom or public school building, or at any public school
event, if the object or document is displayed with other objects
and documents of historical significance that have formed or
influenced the legal and governmental systems of the United
States and the State of Oregon. Such display of an object or
document containing the words of the Ten Commandments:
  (1) Shall be in the same manner and appearance generally as
other objects and documents;
  (2) Shall be for the primary secular purpose of promoting a
better overall understanding of the historical founding of our
country; and
  (3) May not be presented or displayed in any fashion that
results in calling attention to it apart from the other displayed
objects and documents. + }
