                             SUMMARY
 
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
 
  Directs Department of Education to conduct annual survey on
number of Oregon children with diabetes.
  Directs physicians to report to Health Division cases of
diabetes among Oregon children.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to diabetes.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) The Department of Education shall conduct
an annual survey of all public schools and registered private
schools in Oregon and collect the following information for each
school:
  (a) The number of children with Type I diabetes and the number
of children with Type II diabetes;
  (b) The date of the diagnosis of diabetes of each child; and
  (c) The gender of each child diagnosed with diabetes.
  (2) The results of the survey shall be reported to the Health
Division no later than June 15th of the year in which the survey
is conducted.
  (3) The results of the annual survey shall be made available
for public inspection, provided that no information shall be
disclosed that would allow for the personal identification of any
child. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + (1) As used in this section, 'child' or '
children' means an individual 18 years of age or younger.
  (2) Within one month of diagnosing a child with Type I or Type
II diabetes, a physician shall report such diagnosis to the
Health Division. The report shall include:
  (a) The date of the diagnosis;
  (b) The type of diabetes diagnosed;
  (c) The date of birth of the child;
  (d) The gender of the child; and
  (e) The county of residence of the child.
  (3) The Health Division shall compile the information submitted
under subsection (2) of this section and make the information
available for public inspection. No information shall be
disclosed that would permit the personal identification of any
child. + }
