Whereas providing to health care professionals and to senior
citizens and their health care providers a comprehensive and
coordinated system of educational programs in medication
management for senior citizens would reduce the incidence of
medication-related medical emergencies experienced by seniors who
take their prescriptions incorrectly; and
Whereas educational programs should be developed to help inform
health care professionals and senior citizens and their health
care providers about the responsible use of prescription
medicines and the potentially harmful effects of misuse or abuse
of prescription medicines; and
Whereas educational programs should be developed to improve
communication among senior citizens, health care providers and
health care professionals; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:

That we, the members of the Seventy-first Legislative Assembly,
recommend that health insurers, including health care service
contractors, the Oregon Health Plan and other state-funded health
care programs that provide prescription medicines to senior
citizens, establish and conduct medication management educational
programs that include, but are not limited to, workshops, short
presentations and print and electronic media information
campaigns in local communities.
