                             SUMMARY
 
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
 
  Punishes person who knowingly makes false report of child abuse
by maximum of one year's imprisonment, $5,000 fine, or both.
Punishes second or subsequent offense by maximum of five years'
imprisonment, $100,000 fine, or both.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to abuse reporting; amending ORS 419B.025.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1. ORS 419B.025 is amended to read:
  419B.025.  { + (1) + } Anyone participating in good faith in
the making of a report of child abuse and who has reasonable
grounds for the making thereof shall have immunity from any
liability, civil or criminal, that might otherwise be incurred or
imposed with respect to the making or content of such report. Any
such participant shall have the same immunity with respect to
participating in any judicial proceeding resulting from such
report.
   { +  (2) If a person knowingly makes a false report of child
abuse, the person shall be guilty of:
  (a) A Class A misdemeanor for the first offense; and
  (b) A Class C felony for a second or subsequent offense. + }
