The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the

Directs Department of Community Colleges and Workforce
Development to designate Columbia Gorge Community College as
  { - Oregon's - } { + an Oregon + } First Responder Training
Center.

                        JOINT RESOLUTION
Whereas Wasco County and the City of The Dalles were the first
communities in the nation and the only communities in Oregon to
suffer and respond to bioterrorism attacks; and
Whereas Columbia Gorge Community College offers an Associate of
Applied Science degree program in nursing (LPN/RN) and an
Electronic Engineering Technology degree program developed in
partnership with the United States Army Corps of Engineers,
Bonneville Power Administration and Intel Corporation; and
Whereas Columbia Gorge Community College's nursing program
trains students from throughout the Mid-Columbia Region to
respond to medical needs, including injuries caused by
bioterrorism; and
Whereas Columbia Gorge Community College's engineering
technology program provides students from throughout the
Mid-Columbia Region with the skills to respond to attacks on the
security of the area and the state's power system; and
Whereas the designation of Columbia Gorge Community College as
an Oregon First Responder Training Center will better enable
Columbia Gorge Community College to attract resources to support
the college's programs and to further the college's mission to
teach and train students to protect the security of the homeland;
now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
That the Department of Community Colleges and Workforce
Development shall designate Columbia Gorge Community College as
an Oregon First Responder Training Center.
