HOUSE MEMORIAL
To the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United
States of America, in Congress assembled:
We, your memorialists, the House of Representatives of the
State of Oregon, in legislative session assembled, respectfully
represent as follows:
Whereas middle-class Americans represent the vast majority of
taxpayers; and
Whereas leading economists have concluded that income tax
relief for the middle class is a far more effective economic
stimulus than any other kind of tax cut; and
Whereas Oregon's economy continues to suffer a prolonged
downturn that has placed Oregon near the top in the ranking of
states for unemployment and hunger; and
Whereas over the past two decades the tax burden has shifted
disproportionately onto the backs of middle-class Oregonians;
now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
Oregon:
(1) The Congress of the United States of America is
respectfully requested to reduce federal income taxes for
middle-class taxpayers by at least 10 percent.
(2) A copy of this memorial shall be sent to each member of the
Oregon Congressional Delegation.
