SUMMARY

introduced.
Congratulates Saundra Hopkins and Kenneth Balk for surviving
attack in West Papua, Indonesia. Honors Saundra Hopkins and Ken
Balk for contributions to international education.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas computer teacher Saundra Hopkins and math and science
teacher Kenneth Balk of Sunriver, Oregon, had traveled to West
Papua, Indonesia, to teach children at an international school
established by the Freeport McMoRan Company; and
Whereas on August 31, 2002, gunmen ambushed a group from the
school that included Saundra Hopkins and Kenneth Balk and their
six-year-old daughter, Taia, wounding all three; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-second Legislative
Assembly, congratulate Saundra Hopkins and Kenneth Balk for
surviving the attack, and express our appreciation for their
contributions to international education; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this resolution be presented to
Saundra Hopkins and Kenneth Balk as an expression of our esteem.
