Honors Major General Donald N. Anderson in naming joint
emergency operations and military center in Salem, Oregon, '
Donald N. Anderson Readiness Center. '
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Major General Donald N. Anderson was born in Portland,
Oregon, and lived his entire life in Oregon; and
Whereas Major General Donald N. Anderson faithfully served the
State of Oregon and the nation as an officer in the Oregon
National Guard from June 6, 1939, until his retirement on March
11, 1973; and
Whereas Major General Donald N. Anderson served in the Pacific
Theater during World War II with the Oregon National Guard 186th
Infantry Regiment beginning in 1941 and was awarded the Silver
Star, the Bronze Star with One Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal,
the Combat Infantryman Badge, the American Defense Service Medal,
the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with Three Stars and an
Arrowhead, the World War II Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation
Medal (Japan), the Philippine Liberation Medal with One Star, the
Philippine Presidential Unit Citation and the Oregon Faithful
Service Medal; and
Whereas Major General Donald N. Anderson served as Adjutant
General for the Oregon National Guard from October 7, 1963, until
his retirement on March 11, 1973; and
Whereas Major General Donald N. Anderson was instrumental in
the involvement of the Oregon National Guard during the Oregon
floods in 1963 and 1964 and in the development of the Oregon
National Guard into a viable emergency response force; now,
therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-second Legislative
Assembly, honor Major General Donald N. Anderson for his lifetime
of military service to this state and to the nation by concurring
in the naming of the new joint emergency operations and military
center in Salem, Oregon, the 'Donald N. Anderson Readiness
Center'; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to his
wife, Margaret.
