                       Senate Resolution 1

Sponsored by Senator GEORGE (at the request of Gus Smoorenburg)

Whereas from the day their country was occupied by Germany
until the day it was liberated by the Allies, Dutch resistance
fighters continuously and gallantly put their lives at risk to
end the Nazi occupation; and
Whereas Dutch resistance fighters were instrumental in
rescuing, hiding and returning over 120 Allied pilots who were
shot down on raids over northern Europe; and
Whereas Dutch resistance fighters provided invaluable
assistance to Allied forces in the air, on the ground and at sea;
and
Whereas these efforts of Dutch resistance fighters, made at
great cost to their homes, their families and often to their very
lives, were essential to the ultimate victory of Allied forces
over the Nazi regime; and
Whereas it is essential for free people everywhere to recognize
the efforts of everyone who contributed to the defeat of Nazi
Germany; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Oregon:

That we, the members of the Senate of the Seventy-second
Legislative Assembly, recognize and honor the efforts and the
sacrifices of Dutch resistance fighters in World War II in
overcoming the Nazi regime in Germany and achieving ultimate
victory in Europe for Allied forces.
