House Joint Resolution 16

Oregon Laws 2005

AN ACT

Whereas the most important and popular of Asian festivals, the date of the New Year celebration, is fixed traditionally according to the lunar calendar as the second new moon after the winter solstice; and

Whereas Oregonians encourage participation in activities that lead to the equal opportunity and fair treatment of all Asian Americans; and

Whereas Oregonians support enterprises and organizations committed to the betterment of the Asian American community; and

Whereas the closeness of the traditional Asian American family, its dynamic work ethic and its innumerable endowments to literature and the performing arts inspire us all; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:

That the Seventy-third Legislative Assembly hereby recognizes the Lunar New Year as Oregon’s Asian American Day.
