Requires Department of Transportation to ensure that when
highway lanes merge, traffic in left lane merges into right lane.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to merger of highway lanes.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1. { + (1) Except as provided in subsection (2) of
this section, the Department of Transportation shall ensure that
when two lanes of a highway merge, the traffic from the left lane
merges into the right lane, rather than the traffic from the
right lane merging into the left lane.
(2) Subsection (1) of this section does not apply to:
(a) Entrance ramps onto multilane highways; or
(b) Auxiliary lanes that are between entrance and exit
ramps. + }
SECTION 2. { + The Department of Transportation shall finish
the work required to comply with section 1 of this 2005 Act
within four years of the effective date of this 2005 Act. + }
