Enrolled
Senate Concurrent Resolution 4
Sponsored by Senator CARTER; Representatives HANSEN, SHIELDS
Whereas Concordia University, located in Northeast Portland,
celebrates its centennial this year; and
Whereas this fine Lutheran school has provided 100 years of
service and education to individuals of many faiths, Christian
and non-Christian, by striving for excellence in teaching and
learning, through ministry and outreach, and by awarding degrees
in the liberal arts and sciences, education, nursing, health care
administration and business, including master's degrees in
education, school administration and business administration; and
Whereas the university, founded in 1905, is an anchor for the
Concordia neighborhood and is a highly valuable educational
resource for schools, including its Northwest Center for
Children's Literature, for churches of the Northwest District of
the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and for the community in the
Pacific Northwest and the Pacific Rim; and
Whereas the community, neighborhood, university, state and
civic and national leaders are joining in commemoration of this
100th year of quality education, service and faith; now,
therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-third Legislative Assembly,
join in this commemoration and encourage citizens to honor this
special observance.
