Senate Concurrent Resolution 4
Sponsored by Senator CARTER; Representatives HANSEN, SHIELDS
SUMMARY
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
Commemorates Concordia University for 100 years of service and
education.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Concordia University, located in Northeast Portland,
celebrates its centennial this year; and
Whereas this fine Lutheran school has provided 100 years of
service and education to individuals of many faiths, Christian
and non-Christian, by striving for excellence in teaching and
learning, through ministry and outreach, and by awarding degrees
in the liberal arts and sciences, education, nursing, health care
administration and business, including a master's degree in
business administration offered by the School of Management; and
Whereas the university, founded in 1905, is an anchor for the
Concordia neighborhood and is a valuable educational resource for
schools, including its Northwest Center for Children's
Literature, for churches of the Northwest District of the
Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and for the community in the
Pacific Northwest and the Pacific Rim; and
Whereas the community, neighborhood, university, state and
civic and national leaders are joining in commemoration of this
100th year of quality education, service and faith; now,
therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-third Legislative Assembly,
join in this commemoration and encourage citizens to honor this
special observance.
