Oregon Laws 2007

 

          Whereas the future of this nation and the American way of life depend on this nation’s success in defending itself against its enemies at home and abroad; and

          Whereas a grateful nation honors all of its soldiers and comforts the families and friends of soldiers who have lost their lives in service to this nation; and

          Whereas the Oregon National Guard has served bravely and loyally in defense of this nation; and

          Whereas gallant members of the Oregon National Guard have died while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and the war in Iraq; and

          Whereas gallant soldiers with significant ties to Oregon have died while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom and the war in Iraq; and

          Whereas Oregon National Guard deployments have reached the highest level since World War II; and

          Whereas the people of Oregon welcome the opportunity to display their pride in, and to express their appreciation to, all of the members of the Oregon National Guard; and

          Whereas the National Guard has a distinguished history that dates back to December 13, 1636, when three militia companies were formed in the Massachusetts Bay Colony to protect the colonists from the Pequot Indians; now, therefore,

 

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:

 

          That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative Assembly, designate December 13 of every year as “Honor Our Oregon National Guard Day” and urge all Oregonians to commemorate this day in appreciation of the Oregon National Guard.
