Senate Concurrent Resolution 7

Oregon Laws 2007

Whereas our nation’s National Guard and Reserve forces enable the United States to respond to threats to the national interest; and

Whereas National Guard and Reserve units are deployed worldwide to help guard our nation’s interests and to fight and win the war against terrorism; and

Whereas, although Americans understand and appreciate the importance of our National Guard and Reserve forces, many do not know about the sacrifices that those who employ members of the National Guard and Reserve make in support of their employees as the employees serve our nation; and

Whereas many employers make it possible for members of the National Guard and Reserve to serve by granting extended leaves of absence, by guaranteeing benefits and continued job opportunities during and after service and by joining with other employers in pledging their support for their employees; and

Whereas an employer’s willingness to sacrifice and bear the inevitable financial hardships and organizational disruptions that result from extending support to employees who are National Guard and Reserve members is often what makes it possible for those members to play an essential role in the nation’s response to threats to the national interest; and

Whereas it is appropriate to recognize and honor the sacrifice made by employers in support of their National Guard and Reserve employees; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon:

That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative Assembly, on behalf of all Oregonians, extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to these patriots for the burden they bear as their employees serve our nation; and be it further

Resolved, That we encourage all Oregonians to recognize and honor these sacrifices made on our behalf.
