  Requires use of electronic signaling device by individual or
group engaging in mountain climbing above timberline during
five-month period.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to the use of electronic signaling devices; amending ORS
  401.625.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1. ORS 401.625 is amended to read:
  401.625.  { + (1) A person who engages in mountain climbing
during the months of November, December, January, February and
March shall use an electronic signaling device when climbing a
mountain at a point above the timberline.
  (2) + } A person who guides for compensation an organized group
that includes children under 18 years of age on any mountain
 { + at a point + } above the timberline   { - must - }
 { + shall  + }carry an altimeter,  { + an electronic signaling
device, + } a contour map of the area and a compass.
