  Whereas Doreen Margolin was born in New York in 1947 and moved
to Oregon in 1971, where she worked as a computer programmer for
the State of Oregon and Portland State University until she
enrolled in Lewis & Clark Law School; and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin began her law practice in Portland in
1981, specializing in family law and serving her profession as
chair of the Multnomah Bar Association Continuing Education and
Judicial Selection Committees, as chair of the Oregon State Bar
Professional Liability Fund, as chair of the Lewis & Clark Law
School Alumni Association and as a judge pro tempore in the state
circuit court; and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin expressed her passion and commitment to
public higher education in Oregon through many years of service
to Portland Community College and to the community college ideal;
and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin was a member and chair of the Portland
Community College Foundation Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1996
and was elected to the Portland Community College Board of
Directors in 1999 where, at the time of her death, she was board
chair; and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin served in a leadership role on the
boards of directors of the Association of Community College
Trustees and the Oregon Community College Association, and was
honored for her work on behalf of community colleges and their
students with the Howard Cherry Award as Oregon's outstanding
college board member; and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin was devoted to making Oregon a better
place for all Oregonians, but especially for those who were
disadvantaged and, through higher education, wished to
participate more fully in the American and the Oregon dream; and
  Whereas Doreen Margolin passed away on January 8, 2007, leaving
her husband Phil Margolin, her children Dan and Ami, and her
parents; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
 
  That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative
Assembly, recognize and express our appreciation for Doreen
Margolin's outstanding service and numerous achievements
throughout her life on behalf of community colleges, the
disadvantaged, and the people and the State of Oregon.
