In memoriam: Logan Layton Will, 1984-2006.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Logan Layton Will was only 22 years old when he was
killed in an automobile accident on November 22, 2006, on
Interstate 5 just south of Salem; and
Whereas Logan Layton Will enrolled at Willamette University
after his graduation from Grants Pass High School as
valedictorian of his class; and
Whereas Logan Layton Will earned the honor of being a
G. Herbert Smith Presidential Scholar; and
Whereas Logan Layton Will, while a student at Willamette
University, served as President of the chapter of the Willamette
College Democrats and was a member of the Willamette University
debate team; and
Whereas the debate team of which Logan Layton Will was a member
won the National Season Sweepstakes for best overall school
during the entire 2005-2006 debating season and the National
Tournament Sweepstakes for best overall record at the National
Tournament; and
Whereas during his short life, Logan Layton Will passionately
served his community and the State of Oregon, volunteering much
of his spare time to area campaigns and to causes that he
believed served his fellow Oregonians; and
Whereas prior to his death, Logan Layton Will had been hired to
work as a part-time Legislative Assistant to Representative Larry
Galizio during the current legislative session; and
Whereas Willamette University has established a memorial fund
that will be used to award a 'Logan Will Award' to an outstanding
debater who fulfills the Willamette University motto of 'Not unto
ourselves alone are we born'; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative
Assembly, extend our deepest sympathies to the family of Logan
Layton Will, his friends, the students at Willamette University
and all those persons whose lives he affected; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the
family of Logan Layton Will as an expression of our condolences.
