                             SUMMARY

The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.

Encourages Governor to designate state ambassadors to represent
state in foreign markets. Encourages Governor to reimburse
ambassadors for actual expenses, including travel.

                        JOINT RESOLUTION
Whereas today's global economy provides both benefits and
challenges to Oregon; and
Whereas international trade is a dominant part of the Oregon
economy and provides important markets for many Oregon
businesses; and
Whereas this state's growing educational and cultural diversity
means that we are increasingly aware of our global partners; and
Whereas ambassadors who represent Oregon in foreign markets
would assist the International Trade Commission and the Economic
and Community Development Department in important duties; and
Whereas designating ambassadors for Oregon who would visit
foreign markets and receive representatives of foreign markets
would enhance Oregon's presence in the global community and
benefit the state's economy and people; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative
Assembly, encourage the Governor to designate state ambassadors
to represent Oregon in foreign markets and to visit foreign
markets and receive representatives from those markets; and be it
further
Resolved, That we encourage the Governor, from funds available
to the Governor, to reimburse the state ambassadors for actual
and necessary expenses, including travel expenses, incurred in
the performance of the ambassadors' official duties for the
state.
