HOUSE RESOLUTION
Whereas the territory that lies to the East of the Cascades and
extends from the Columbia River plateau to the highlands of the
Blue Mountains is Oregon's Rugged Country; and
Whereas Oregon's Rugged Country possesses scenic attractions
ranging from high desert sunrises to powerful, rushing rivers,
from mountaintop viewpoints to never-ending plateau vistas; and
Whereas Oregon's Rugged Country has allowed distinct lifestyles
to flourish and a people to preserve a diverse cultural history;
and
Whereas Oregon's Rugged Country can claim cowboys and rodeos,
farmers and ranchers, small-town cafes and Native American
powwows, county fairs and cattle drives, hunting and fishing; and
Whereas Oregon's Rugged Country is experiencing a rebirth as a
unique destination, offering a safe and welcoming place that
encourages a relationship with its country and people; and
Whereas Oregon's Rugged Country will continue to attract
settlers and tourists who have the courage to explore Oregon's
vast and challenging forgotten frontier; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
Oregon:

Seventy-fourth Legislative Assembly, recognize Baker, Grant,
Harney, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union and Wallowa Counties as
