                             SUMMARY

  Requires that health care facility performing organ or tissue
transplants be accredited by certain organization.
  Requires that tissue banks be accredited by certain
organization. Requires that tissue bank personnel be certified by
certain organization.
  Requires that health care facility use organ procurement
organization.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to transplants.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) As used in this section:
  (a) 'Health care facility' has the meaning given that term in
ORS 442.015.
  (b) 'Organ procurement organization' means an organization that
coordinates activities relating to organ and tissue retrieval in
a designated area. Activities include but are not limited to
evaluation of potential donors, discussion of organ or tissue
donation with surviving family members and arrangement for
surgical removal and transport of donated organs and tissue.
  (c) 'Tissue bank' means an entity that acquires, tests and
stores donated organs and tissue for use in transplants.
  (2) A health care facility that performs organ or tissue
transplants must be accredited by the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
  (3) A health care facility that performs transplants must use
the organ procurement organization that serves Oregon.
  (4) A tissue bank must be accredited by a scientific, nonprofit
national organization approved by the Department of Human
Services.
  (5) Tissue bank personnel must be certified by a scientific,
nonprofit national organization approved by the department. + }
