                             SUMMARY
 
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the

brief statement of the essential features of the measure.
 
  Directs Department of Education to collect data from school
districts on number of minutes of physical education provided to
kindergarten through grade 8 students. Directs department to
report to Legislative Assembly on data for 2007-2008 school year

  Declares emergency, effective July 1, 2007.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to physical education; and declaring an emergency.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + The Department of Education shall collect data
from school districts on the number of minutes of physical
education that are provided to kindergarten through grade 8
students each school day in each public school within the
district. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + Prior to February 1 of each odd-numbered year,
the Department of Education shall report to the Legislative
Assembly on the data collected under section 1 of this 2007 Act
for the prior two school years. + }
  SECTION 3.  { + Notwithstanding section 2 of this 2007 Act, the
Department of Education is required to include only the data
collected from the 2007-2008 school year under section 1 of this
2007 Act in the first report to the Legislative Assembly under
section 2 of this 2007 Act. + }
  SECTION 4.  { + This 2007 Act being necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency
is declared to exist, and this 2007 Act takes effect July 1,
2007. + }
