In memoriam: Judge Clifford L. Freeman, 1944-2006.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Multnomah County Circuit Judge Clifford L. Freeman, who
was born on June 2, 1944, passed away on August 21, 2006; and
Whereas Judge Clifford L. Freeman received an undergraduate
degree in economics, a master's degree in education and a law
degree from the University of Oregon; and
Whereas Judge Clifford L. Freeman served as a felony trial
attorney for the Metropolitan Public Defender's office from 1979
to 1988; and
Whereas Judge Clifford served as a pro tempore Juvenile Court
Referee for Multnomah County before he was appointed to the bench
in 1996; and
Whereas Judge Clifford L. Freeman was one of the driving forces
behind the development of Multnomah County's Community Court
Project that brought courtrooms into neighborhoods to handle
crimes that were not considered high profile; and
Whereas Judge Clifford L. Freeman was the first judge to
preside over the Northeast Community Court, based at the King
Neighborhood Facility in Northeast Portland; and
Whereas as presiding judge of the Northeast Community Court,
Judge Clifford L. Freeman found ways that defendants could aid
the community as part of their sentence; and
Whereas Judge Clifford L. Freeman was known to his colleagues
as personifying the qualities of a good judge, a public servant
and a mentor; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative
Assembly, extend our deepest sympathies to Judge Clifford L.
Freeman's family, friends and all those persons whose lives he
affected in the community he served.
