                             SUMMARY

The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.

Congratulates Oregon State University Beavers, 2007 national
collegiate baseball champions.

                      CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas during the 2007 college baseball season, the Oregon
State University Beavers had a record of 49 wins and 18 losses,
beginning the season with a combined no-hitter; and
Whereas the Beavers entered the National Collegiate Athletic
Association regional playoffs played in Charlottesville,
Virginia, defeating Rutgers, losing to the host team, the
University of Virginia, in extra innings and then in a
double-header defeated Rutgers, followed by a defeat by the
University of Virginia, before going on the next day to defeat
Virginia in the final game of the series; and
Whereas the Beavers swept the Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA
super-regional playoffs played in Corvallis, with a one-hit 1-0
victory over the Wolverines, followed by another victory the next
day; and
Whereas the Beavers then entered the NCAA College World Series
for the third time in three years; and
Whereas the Beavers defeated Cal State Fullerton, Arizona State
University and the University of California, Irvine, with a
combined total of 22 runs against nine runs; and
Whereas the Beavers went on to face the University of North
Carolina Tarheels in a rematch of the 2006 college championship
series, sweeping them in two games, 11-4 and 9-3; and
Whereas throughout the entire College World Series the Beavers
never trailed another team, until the last game of the
championship series when North Carolina scored a single run in
the bottom of the first inning; and
Whereas only minutes later, in the top of the second inning,
the Beavers scored two runs, retaking the lead and going on to
win the final game of the series 9-3; and
Whereas the Oregon State University Beavers were the first team
to win back-to-back national baseball championships since 1997;
and
Whereas the Oregon State University players and coaches
believed in themselves, believed in each other, played for the
love of the game and played the game as well as the game can be
played; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-fourth Legislative
Assembly, for the second time in this session, commend the
exemplary intercollegiate athletic achievements of the NCAA
Division I national champions in baseball, the Oregon State
University Beavers.
