House Resolution 1 Oregon Laws 2009
AN ACT
Whereas Congresswoman Darlene Hooley first answered the call of public service by shaping the minds of young Oregonians as a teacher in Woodburn, Gervais and St. Mary’s schools; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley deepened her public service and her commitment to community involvement after her son was injured on a West Linn playground; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley became the first woman to serve on the West Linn City Council; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley served seven distinguished years representing West Linn in the Oregon House of Representatives, dutifully working on behalf of her constituents on education issues, passing Oregon’s first recycling laws, writing and passing equal pay laws and more; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley took her reputation and experience as a policy-minded consensus builder to the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners to extend her service in local government for an additional nine years; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley became the first woman to serve on the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley worked tirelessly as a Clackamas County Commissioner to create the North Clackamas Parks and Recreation district; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley was elected to the United States House of Representatives by the people of Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District in 1996; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley was elected freshman class president in her first term by her colleagues in the United States Congress; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley has spent over a decade in the Congress making Oregon and the United States of America safer by battling the methamphetamine epidemic and identity theft; and
Whereas Congresswoman Hooley has resolutely honored the service of both active duty and National Guard veterans through her service on the United States House of Representatives Committee on Veterans’ Affairs; and
Whereas
Congresswoman Hooley has faithfully served the people of Oregon for well over
30 years; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of Oregon:
That we, the members of the House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly, extend our gratitude to Congresswoman Darlene Hooley for her years of selfless public service, innumerable achievements and contributions to the betterment of the State of Oregon.
