  Allows use of metal detectors or similar devices in state parks
without permit, fee or other charge. Authorizes State Parks and
Recreation Department to prohibit use of metal detectors or
similar devices in any state park or in designated areas of any
state park to protect natural resources, safeguard archaeological
areas or ensure public safety.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to metal detectors in state parks.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + (1) An individual may use a metal detector or
similar device without a permit or paying a fee or other charge
in any state park over which the State Parks and Recreation
Department has jurisdiction and authority under ORS 390.111.
  (2) Notwithstanding subsection (1) of this section, the State
Parks and Recreation Department may prohibit the use of metal
detectors or similar devices in any state park or in designated
areas of any state park in order to protect natural resources,
safeguard archaeological areas or ensure public safety. + }
