  Directs Secretary of State to notify candidates for public
office of legal action and remedies available for publishing
false statement of fact relating to candidate, political
committee or measure.
 
                        A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to candidates for public office.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
  SECTION 1.  { + Section 2 is added to and made a part of ORS
chapter 249. + }
  SECTION 2.  { + The Secretary of State shall provide written
notice to each candidate for public office regarding the
available legal action and remedies for publishing a false
statement of material fact relating to any candidate, political
committee or measure under ORS 260.532. The secretary may adopt
rules to carry out the provisions of this section. + }
  SECTION 3.  { + Section 2 of this 2009 Act applies to
candidates who file a nominating petition or declaration of
candidacy on or after the effective date of this 2009 Act. + }
