Enrolled
House Concurrent Resolution 4
Sponsored by Representative GELSER
Whereas in 1984 two music teachers from Corvallis and Salem
returned from an Education Through Music conference with a vision
for a choir that would be a place where children of all ages,
regardless of financial need, could come together to learn and
appreciate music; and
Whereas these dedicated teachers realized their vision when 80
children from Corvallis, Philomath, Albany and Salem signed up
for this choir, newly christened the Heart of the Valley
Children's Choir; and
Whereas during the past 24 seasons, Heart of the Valley
Children's Choir has grown from a single choir to five choirs
that teach 300 singers the discipline of developing their voices
and the joy of sharing music with local and international
audiences; and
Whereas Heart of the Valley Children's Choir, long recognized
as one of the best youth organizations in the mid-Willamette
Valley, also inspires its singers to develop the essential life
tools of dedication, commitment, self-respect, trust, friendship,
courage and leadership; and
Whereas Heart of the Valley Children's Choir not only adds its
voice to major celebrations in Corvallis and other cities in
Oregon but has also served as musical ambassador to Corvallis'
Sister City of Uzhhorod, Ukraine; and
Whereas Heart of the Valley Children's Choirs have toured
throughout Europe and China, singing by invitation in the world's
greatest cathedrals and concert halls, and singing by inspiration
on ferries, bridges and street corners, and have delighted
audiences large and small; and
Whereas Heart of the Valley Children's Choir will celebrate the
end of its 25th season and the beginning of its next 25 years
with a choral festival in Corvallis from June 30 to July 3, 2009;
now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
