SUMMARY

Congratulates Coach Daniel J. Miles and Oregon Institute of
Technology on success of men's basketball program over many
seasons.
CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
Whereas Daniel J. 'Danny' Miles has served as Oregon Institute
of Technology's men's basketball head coach for 38 seasons; and
Whereas Danny Miles has coached two National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Oregon Tech Hustlin'
Owl squads to national championship seasons in 2004 and 2008; and
Whereas Coach Miles' Hustlin' Owls entered this season ranked
first nationally; and
Whereas Coach Miles has seen three Hustlin' Owl teams reach the
NAIA Division II National Championship game; and
Whereas Coach Miles has had four teams reach the NAIA Division
II Final Four; and
Whereas Coach Miles has had six teams reach the NAIA Division
II Elite Eight; and
Whereas Coach Miles has had 11 teams make the NAIA Division II
Sweet Sixteen; and
Whereas Coach Miles entered this season with an 847-362 Oregon
Institute of Technology record and is ranked seventh in wins in
the history of men's collegiate basketball at all levels in the
United States; and
Whereas Coach Miles is a native of Medford, Oregon, and the
2005 recipient of the Southern Oregon University Distinguished
Alumnus Award; and
Whereas Coach Miles was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in
2001 and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame in 1996; and
Whereas Coach Miles was named National Basketball Coach of the
Year in 2004 and 2008; and
Whereas Coach Miles was named NAIA National Coach of Character
in 2008; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
Oregon:
That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly,
express our sincere congratulations to Coach Daniel J. Miles and
the Hustlin' Owls of Oregon Institute of Technology for
unparalleled success both on and off the basketball court for
many seasons.
