  In memoriam: Mary Alice Ford, 1935-2008.
 
                      CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford served her family and community as a
homemaker, teacher, senior consultant and legislator; and
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford served her state for eight terms in the
Oregon House of Representatives; and
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford served her country as chairperson of
the United States Architectural and Transportation Barriers
Compliance Board; and
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford, throughout her life of service, was
recognized many times, receiving among other honors the City of
Beaverton Distinguished Service Award, the AARP Outstanding
Legislator of the Year award, the Oregon Commission for Women
Woman of Achievement Award, the Oregon Developmental Disabilities
Council Access Ability Award, the Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue
Certificate of Appreciation, the Portland Area Women's Political
Caucus Sue Juba Award, the Paralyzed Veterans of America
Certificate of Appreciation and the Oregon Student Safety on the
Move Award; and
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford is survived by a large and loving
family, including daughter Sherilyn Lawson, sons Thomas Taylor
Ford and John Hiram Hood Ford and grandchildren Taylor Vic
Lawson, Aryn Melissa Lawson and Emmett Henry Ford; and
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford's accomplishments as a legislator
continue to benefit the people of Oregon; and
 
 
  Whereas Mary Alice Ford's spirit of bipartisanship and
compassion is recognized today as exemplary of how we should face
present and future challenges; and
  Whereas after a life well lived in the service of others, Mary
Alice Ford passed away Thanksgiving evening, November 27, 2008;
now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
  That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly,
recognize the contributions of Mary Alice Ford and express our
deep gratitude for her tireless dedication to elderly persons and
persons with disabilities and for her lifetime of service to
state and country.
