                             SUMMARY
 
The following summary is not prepared by the sponsors of the
measure and is not a part of the body thereof subject to
consideration by the Legislative Assembly. It is an editor's
brief statement of the essential features of the measure as
introduced.
 
  Directs State Board of Higher Education to review potential for
focusing higher education resources to assist state government
and to report to Legislative Assembly.
 
                        JOINT RESOLUTION
  Whereas the state's institutions of higher education are a
source of knowledge that can be applied to solving the state's
public policy problems; and
  Whereas the development and administration of public policy by
state government is enhanced through the availability of the best
possible knowledge base; and
  Whereas the important knowledge resource of the state's
institutions of higher education is often not readily available
to state policymakers and administrators; and
  Whereas other states have developed means to focus higher
education resources to assist in solving public problems; now,
therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
  (1) That the potential for focusing higher education resources
to assist state government through some readily available means
be reviewed by the State Board of Higher Education, and that the
Chancellor of the Oregon University System or the Chancellor's
designee report on the review to the Seventy-sixth Legislative
Assembly.
  (2) A copy of this resolution shall be sent to the directors of
the State Board of Higher Education and to the Chancellor of the
Oregon University System.
