HOUSE MEMORIAL
To the President of the United States and the Senate and the
House of Representatives of the United States of America, in
Congress assembled:
We, your memorialists, the House of Representatives of the
Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon, in
legislative session assembled, respectfully represent as follows:
Whereas the one-cent penny is obsolete, little used and costs
more to mint than its face value; and
Whereas pennies are a drain to our financial system, slowing
down cash transactions; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
Oregon:
(1) The House of Representatives of the Seventy-fifth
Legislative Assembly urges the Congress of the United States to
enact legislation that ceases the production of the one-cent
penny as a unit of currency in the United States.
(2) A copy of this memorial shall be sent to the President of
the United States, to the Senate Majority Leader, to the Speaker
of the House of Representatives and to each member of the Oregon
Congressional Delegation.
