  In memoriam: William Robert Hakim, 1957-2008.
 
                      CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
  Whereas William (Bill) Robert Hakim was born on August 31,
1957, and was killed in the line of duty by a bomb explosion on
December 12, 2008; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim, born in New York City, spent much
of his youth with his family in Spain and Italy, where he
attended elementary school; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim settled with his family in Mexico
City in 1968, where he began his secondary education; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim led an adventurous childhood,
traveling across the Atlantic at age six on a seven-month cruise,
meeting Pablo Picasso and mastering the French, Italian, Spanish
and English languages; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim finished high school in Texas,
attended St. John's College in New Mexico, enlisted in the Navy
and finished his college education at the University of Texas
with a bachelor of science degree and with a Naval officer rank;
and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim served his country as a naval
officer, becoming an explosive ordinance disposal diver, his
proudest accomplishment in the Navy; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim continued his world travels while
in the Navy, traveling through the Persian Gulf, Hong Kong,
Singapore and the Philippines; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim graduated from the Oregon Public
Safety Academy in 1997 and joined the Oregon State Police; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim joined the Oregon State Police
Arson and Explosives Section in 1999, where he proudly served
until his death; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim owned a motorcycle that was his
first love until he found his true love, his wife, Terri; and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim enjoyed traveling with Terri and
their daughter, Page, and son, Victor, even though it took him
 
away from his 1966 cherry red Ford Mustang (fondly known as the '
money pit'); and
  Whereas William Robert Hakim loved coaching soccer as a
volunteer coach for the Salem Parks and Recreation Department and
enjoyed using his creative talents to build furniture and to
master the barbecue; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of
  Oregon:
  That we, the members of the Seventy-fifth Legislative Assembly,
on behalf of all Oregonians, recognize, honor and express our
gratitude for William Robert Hakim's service to this state and
all Oregonians; and be it further
  Resolved, That a copy of this resolution shall be presented to
his family as an expression of our esteem, appreciation and
condolences.
